New Kitten

Recently we added a new member to the family (Mia) a calico kitten. She was an orphan that was dropped off at a local feed store along with her brothers and needed a home...so home she came! Molly, our other cat wasnt having anything to do with Mia, but with lots of persistent Mia has finally gotten Molly to play with her and be nice! I love watching them ...my 2 girls Molly and Mia (my M&M's).Look at those wild wiskers and yes Mia is in the Christmas tree peeking out!

Apple Pie

Its the day after Christmas and I am baking again!!! I didnt get to make my hubby's favorite ( Apple Pie) for Christmas dinner..so decided to do it today. Why is it that baking makes such a mess....flour everywhere as you can see. Its true I am not a neat baker but as my Mother used to say ...no good baker is a neat baker. My mother who was a wonderful baker , made the best apple pies and crust and her sugar cookie recipe is the best ever!! I have tried other recipes, but my husband and sons always know and remind me that they do not taste the same so I have learned not to mess with a good thing. Of all the things that I bake, these are the two that bring back fond memories of Mom and what a wonderful women she was. Her life was about family and making all her children (total 7) and grandchildren feel special! So baking this pie was actually a labor of love and fond memories!!

Winter has Arrived!!!

Brr.....is it COLD!!! Everyone knows that I hate the cold, it makes my bones ache. But the first clean fluffly snow of the season nestled on the cabin and in the yard is so very pretty and I cant help but appreciate the beauty in it all!!! The bunny in the wagon was buried under all the snow so I brushed him off and took his picture, after all he is braving the snow and cold! (Ha). The other picture is of "Chilly Willy" the store mascot for the winter. He is such a sweet snowman....he smiles at everyone when they enter the store and never complains about anything!
Finally, I know that I am a really bad blogger(slacker), but hope to do better with the new year..so dont give up on me!

Happy Holidays to Everyone!!!

Tangled Threads

New fabric "Tangled Threads" from Whimsicals just arrived and I couldnt wait to make a project. With so little time it had to be small and I found the perfect little pattern from Atkinson Designs "strip zips". The border print worked out great in this sample and it turned out so cute! I just love all the fabric collections from Whimsicals ,her designs are so sweet, very folkarty and warm my quilting soul! I cant wait to see what she has next! Patterns will be arriving soon and I hope to have fabric kits available since small amounts of fabric are required.
Let me know what you think and I will pick a winner to receive a (fabric kit w/pattern)for the strip zips bag. Drawing on Oct 24th, 2010.

Happy Quilting,

Quilt Top DONE!!!

The "Midnight Garden" quilt is finished and ready to be quilted!!I will probably put on my long arm and do a simple quilting pattern....no time for fussy quilting!
I really like the way that the black frames the blocks, the rich color tones and the black and cream toile with the birds. The binding will be black to frame the quilt.
Hope you all like it! You can thank "Jo Morton" for the beautiful fabrics and the great pattern. LEAVE ME A COMMENT and I will put your name in for a drawing of " Jo Mortons" fat eights " Needful Bundle". I will pick the winner on June 30th, 2010.

Happy Quilting,

" A Quilt for Me" continues

Well, with an hour here and there I have managed to get all the blocks made for my
" Midnight Garden" quilt. Another Saturday night, with nothing on the tube ( that I want to see) and the hubby watching his Nascar Racing, I decided to work on the quilt! I am not sure what it is about this quilt that calls to me, but I am loving it! Here is the 1st row and the others are just about finished.
I even started cutting some 1 1/2" squares from the leftovers so that I can make the
"Sisters" quilt from our Little Womens Club. I am determined to also get this done!
KEEP POSTED.....

A QUILT FOR ME!!

It started on Mothers Day...coming back from breakfast. I thought about all the long arm quilting that needed to be done and that I should go to the shop for the rest of the day. But a little voice inside kept saying " Do something for Yourself". So, with that thought I pulled out a project that I have been wanting to do for sometime now. Most of the fabric was already picked out, so I dusted off my Bernina, starting cutting and piecing...........it felt so good!!! Pictured are some of the blocks that will go into the quilt. Of course Jo Morton fabrics are being used along with one of her patterns called " Midnight Garden" from the 2009 American Patchwork Quilting magazine. Watch for more pictures to come!!! I am determined to finish this quilt so I can have something new in my house.
How come the floor in my sewing room looks so clean...swiffers are a wonderful thing!
Happy Quilting.

Jo Morton " Little Womens " Club

Yesterday was our Jo Morton " Little Women's" club and I couldn't believe that almost everyone had their project finished. Each of the "Sisters" quilts were made with different colorways, some with black , others with blue, brown, chedder and one with pink. What a show!!! These girls are so dedicated and come to the meeting enthusiatic and eager for the next project( even though there are some moans about the small pieces). I am so proud of these girls and I would bet that Jo Morton would be to......keep up the good work girls!!!
Also, a big THANK YOU to everyone that supports the shop!!!

Keep Quilting,

NEEDFUL BUNDLES

At the "Crow" I've always had lots of fat quarters on the shelves. Because many people find it hard to choose colors,I found myself putting more and more co-ordinating fat quarter bundles together. Although labor intense, most people go for the bundles of fat quarters because they are convenient, they match and as I have heard them so often say... " I NEED THESE!"". So, comes the phrase " NEEDFUL BUNDLES". Don't we all (as quilters) need more fabric and chocolate( oh,that's a whole different subject) but the Easter bunny does have chocolate for tomorrow and I think someone got into it early........?? I wonder who it was?? But anyway back to the needful bundles.......
Most of the "needful bundles" are rolls of 6 or 8 fats of collections or colorways.
We have many bundles from the collections of Jo Morton, Kansas Trouble, Bonnie Blues and Red Roosters Whimsicals . I love the way they look sitting in a wooden bowl or old trunk and hope you like them to!! Stop by and purchase a "Needful Bundle" for a project, your stash or to just display in your favorite bowl or basket.
HAPPY EASTER!!!

Happy Quilting,
