SAMPLER BLOCK SHUFFLE

MODA SAMPLER BLOCK SHUFFLE

FREE....SAMPLER BLOCK PATTERNS

Yep, that's right...FREE!

Beginning Nov 1st and ending January 4th, 2016, Moda will provide us with 2 to 3 (6") block patterns each week along with tips and teaching tools. The 6" blocks are FREE downloads for you and will be posted to our website and facebook page for you to print out, however you will only have 2 weeks from the time the pattern is posted to print it out, then it will be removed.
There is a total of 30 block patterns and a finishing layout at the end of the program.  I know this is a lot to do each and every week , but don't worry....just be sure to follow us and collect all of the patterns so you can do them now or later.. ( I did all three blocks in an afternoon).
The recommended fabric to do all of the blocks is ...2 layer cakes or 2 jelly rolls and some background fabric. Of course you can use your own fabrics , but lets support Moda and use there fabrics for the blocks.
I am making my blocks from Moda's Richmond Reds collection and will be putting the sample blocks on this blog and my facebook page each week for you to see.
We have layer cakes and jelly rolls in the Richmond Reds collection, also we have many other fabric collections to choose from....How about Kansas Troubles " Sunflower Song" or Barbara Brackman's " Alice's Scrapbag". The possibilities are endless ...so lets have fun! Send me a photo of your blocks and I will post them to our facebook page. * Link for the 1st 3 patterns at bottom of page.

Great Saturday

ANNUAL LAWN SALE...

Saturday was our annual Quilters Lawn Sale and what a great day!

The weather co-operated and we had a great turn out.

I wanted to get more pictures, but it got so busy so fast
that I was only able to take pictures of us at the very start
and of a few early birds....................................................

There were hundreds of bolts of fabric on sale along with books,
patterns, pre-cuts and lots of miscellaneous items and FREE Hot dogs!

Although the sale was good and the weather co-operated it has been a stressful week.
To start with the hubby ended up in the hospital for 3 days on strong antibiotics for diverticulitis in order to prevent having surgery, I was knee deep in preparing for the sale and the Row by Row shop hoppers were in all week long. I am exhausted but relieved that my husband is ok and that everything went well.

So now onto next week and our annual picnic for our sewing group.

Here are a few pics that I was able to get of the Lawn Sale
Evie and Maureen admiring the fabric
View from the road
Some early birds getting started..
Rushing for the best fabrics

Hope that you are having a great Sunday!

President's Pride

President's Pride

Hello Everyone......

This is the start of a quilt called "President's Pride".
Its from the new book " Civil War Remembered".
I just love this book and could make almost every quilt
that is in it.
I have been using a lot of my civil war fabric scraps,
but
you could also buy a bundle of Fat Quarters
or
yardage of your choice.
We have a good selection of Civil War fabrics at the shop
so...stop by if you are close.

Hope your having a great day!

" Hard Crackers" Finish

I almost forgot to post a picture of my finished little quilt
" HARD CRACKERS"
so ..here it is! (It still needs to be quilted and binding).

Recently.... a customer came into the shop and saw the
quilt hanging and replied,...Oh , you finished the quilt!
I didn't see it posted to your Blog and had been watching for it.
So sorry...my fellow bloggers!
I find myself going in so many directions sometimes that
I forget about the little ( but important)  things that need to be taken care of.
Hope that you get inspired to make one of your own!

HAPPY STITCHING,

Hard Crackers

HARD CRACKERS... Civil War Legacies pattern
Row # 1 and #2

I don't know about you...but I am always working on several projects at a time.
AND
I get a lot of scraps...so this pattern just seemed perfect!
I must admit that this "little" project is time consuming ,but the end result
is going to be worth it.

First....plan to make a MESS! Sorting thru all those fabric scraps takes time.
and is a messy job.
Also working with such small pieces of fabric has its challenges.
So, here are a few of my favorite things......
.

I love my small creative grids ruler and Rowenta travel iron for any small
piecing projects...Magic sizing or MaryEllens spray to stabilize the fabric.
Small applique pins,a sharp rotary cutter, pigma or frixion pen
and
Do I see Chocolate?

Row #3 and #4

Working with such small pieces does have its challenges and you
have to pay attention to your seams allowances.
I am not a fan of the so called scant 1/4" seam, but in this case I had to keep
the seam really close to the 1/4".
Also, all the seams had to be pressed open in order to lay flat.
Now to finish the last 2 rows and decide on the borders!
Hope you all are having a great day!

Peg

SHORTBREAD COOKIES

Why Shortbread Cookies?

Well...recently we had our Civil War Club meeting
and
Everyone brought their favorite cookies for our annual
TEA PARTY.

Boy, did we have cookies and lots of them...
BUT...
The one that everyone seemed to really love...
was the delicate, simple and delicious
SHORTBREAD COOKIE!
One of our ladies (Lee) that made the shortbread cookies shouted out the simple
3 ingredient recipe for us all.....but most of us didn't hear her.
So with Lee's permission and her suggestion to post it.
Here is the recipe...

2 Cups Flour
2 Sticks Butter
1/2  Cup Sugar (granulated)

Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add flour slowly to creamed mixture
with spoon ( work with hands until it forms a ball). Roll out to about 1/2 inch thick.
Cut out with favorite cookie cutter and prick holes in top of each cookie.
Bake at 350 about 10-15 minutes.

* I tried the recipe on Sunday and added 1 teas of vanilla ( optional).
My oven baked the cookies just right at 12 minutes ..so check your oven temp.

Enjoy this recipe and Thank You to Lee !

Quilts

TRUE BLUE

Just finished this quilt from Kim Diehl's " Whatnots Club".
I love the rich colors in this Vintage Farmhouse collection
and
the wonderful feel of the fabrics.
Can't wait to make the next project from the club.

HUGS AND KISSES

Also just finished this quilt from Creekside Stitches.
This will be the 1st project of our Monthly Club....
Just in time for Valentines Day or anytime of the year.
Who doesn't love a heart quilt....and its just the right size
for a wallhanging or table topper.

HAPPY STITCHING

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

I hope that everyone is having a great 1st day of the New Year. I have been sewing like a mad woman trying to get ready for a new Block of the Month . It will be a Sampler BOM quilt made with 12" blocks and in two colorways. The 1st will be from Moda's Kansas Troubles fabrics and the other from assorted Civil War prints. The blocks are traditional and go together fast. The cost is $10 per month for each months pattern and fabric. It will run for 12 months with an optional finish kit.
Here is a sneek peak at the blocks made with the KT fabrics.
