"Kitty Photo Shoot"

Well...so much for getting this pic!!! Kitty (Mia) thinks that I should be photo shooting her since she is posing so pretty!!! She is such a ham!!! Look at me... aren't I CUTE!!! I guess I can try again when she is napping. She also thinks that everything I am working on is a play toy...NO..mischievious Mia!! You cannot bat my hard work around the house!

Primitive ABC Witch Pinkeep Pillow

<
I just love this little Primitive ABC Witch pinkeep pillow. Just in time for fall!!
Pumpkins, cat, witch and bat make this a perfect decoration to put in one of my wooden bowls for Halloween. I thought that it needed a little something else, so I searched thru my box of findings and came upon this cute little key which I attached to the pillow with a tiny black pin......Just what it needed!!! Such a simple little project...but it just makes me happy!! If you like this stitchery, find it at "Primitive Stitchin" website.

GF Oatmeal Cookies

Oatmeal Cookies..Yum Yum!! But this is not your average cookie, they are gluten free.
For many years my tummy has given me problems and about a year ago it was out of control. I was told that I had IBS or some similar condition, but always felt like something else was going on. Why am I so extemley tired and why do I always feel like I am sick? So a friend suggested that I go gluten free for a week or so and see if that helped. WOW!!! I didnt believe it! My tummy felt much better and my digestion seemed normal.So..GLUTEN FREE it is!! I have to admit that it has not been all that easy and I occasionally have a pitty party for myself, but it is worth the trouble.
It will be a year in October since I have been GF and I have done a lot of trial and error especially when it comes to baking. Some baked items just are not good! But, this oatmeal cookie recipe is good and I make it a lot...it satifys my sweet tooth and doesnt cost a fortune. Here is the recipe that I got from one of the GF blogs with a few changes. Although these are good, dont ditch your favorite Oatmeal cookie recipe for this GF recipe....because they arent the same as good old fashioned " white flour" cookies.

GF OATMEAL COOKIES

1/2 cup butter (softened)
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup sugar
1/2 teas. vanilla
1 large egg
3/4 cup GF flour ( I like Bob's Red Mill)
1/2 teas.xantham gum
1/2 teas baking soda
dash of salt
1/2 teas cinnamon
1/4 teas cloves
1 1/2 cups GF Oatmeal(Bob's Red Mill)
1/4 cup of walnuts, pecans, raisans,or whatever you prefer.(Optional)

Beat together..butter, sugars, egg and vanilla. Mix dry ingredients together and slowly add to the wet ingredients. Add the oatmeal last and mix. Bake at 350 aprox 10-12 minutes.

Cross Stitch Sampler

Many of you probably do not know that I also have a passion for cross stitching and the bug has bitten again!
During my vacation I took a day trip and visited a couple stitchery shops. I was looking for a few small projects to do and wouldnt you know a very large "Sampler" caught my eye and I had to have it. The only problem is that I had forgotten just how bad the ole eyes are and trying to see the 34 count linen is almost impossible!
So after a new magnifier with a light and a larger count linen (28Ct),I am stitching away!!!
Another great find was the little scissors you see in the pic and an adorable thread separator that I had never seen before. I purchased this sweet little tin full of pins at our "Quilters Lawn Sale" and the pincushion is one that I made and use a lot.
LOVE YOUR COMMENTS!!!

Wooly Pumpkin Pillow

How fun this pillow was to make. The pattern is from the new Fall isssue of " Primitive Quilts and Projects. We have the magazine at the shop and also kits available for the pumpkin pillow project. I just love this new magazine that was created for the more primitive quilters and it fits in perfect at the Quilted Crow.
Have you seen this magazine? Your comments are welcome!!!

" SIMPLY PATRIOTIC"

I have always liked to make quilts and do crafts by just using my own thoughts. Before I had the quilt shop I always did things my way and never followed a pattern, but with the quilt shop I must follow the rules of the patterns. I also find that I do not see many primitve or folkart patterns in the quilting industry and I feel there is a need for us "Primies" to have some options. This flag is the 1st of hopefully many patterns to come that I will be designing. I know...this flag could be more primitive..but I am testing the waters. What do you think? I made the flag so it would fit on the shop front door, it measures 29"x42" and is simple to make.
Just in time for July 4th, Labor Day, or just to honor our country. Leave your comment and you may win a FREE pattern.

New Quilt " Me and My Shadow"

Another quilt done!!! I love quilts with applique, but have to admit that I cheat when it comes to the applique part. No time for needle turn applique( although I do love the look) so I fuse my pieces down and do a small running stitch with co-ordinating thread so it doesnt show much. I also like to use a blanket stitch, but didnt on this quilt because I thought it would look to heavy. The meander quilting was done on my long arm (Millie) and yes.. I did quilt over everything. I know some of you do not like to quilt over applique, but I do not have a problem with it and kind of like the way it keeps the quilt flat. The pattern for this quilt is from Primitive Pieces by Lynda and is called " Me and My Shadow". Call shop or e-mail me for the pattern. Comments always welcome!

FRIENDSHIP ALBUM QUILT

A quilt finished...Ya!!! I have been working on this quilt for a while and couldn't wait to finish it, I just love it! It started out to be a possible BOM for the shop, but realized that it more work to kit each month than I had time for, so it will be a shop sample for now then it will come home with me. The quilt is from the book " The Civil War Sewing Circle" by Kathleen Tracy and is called " Friendship Album Quilt". This book has many wonderful patterns and if you dont already own a copy it is well worth purchasing.
You may notice that my quilt is smaller than the book version...I put just one row of the album quilt blocks instead of two...this is so when it comes home it will fit onto the wall I have assigned to it and also because I was driving myself crazy picking the colors for the blocks ( hee..hee) and to think that I tell my customers not to fuss over the colors for scrappy quilts!!! I guess that I do not practice what I preach...can you believe that!!!
Well, anyway I am now working on a quilt called " Me and My Shadow" from Primitives by Lynda with lots of colors and applique( no wonder I found more gray hairs). Hope to post it soon! Look forward to your comments.

Peg

CANDLE MATS

Recently a great group of ladies visited the shop and one of them came with a wonderful candle mat pattern that she designed and samples to show. Knowing how I love candle mats and small projects, this is a perfect match for the shop,so this weekend I wanted to test run the pattern and it is great! I got on a roll and made 4 candlemats and cut out several more. The possiblities are endless with this pattern and its reversible!!! Use your favorite decorative stitch for around the circle or if your into embroidery use the center for your design. You can purchase the pattern "Reversible Candle Mat" at QUILTED CROW or contact Cindy at www.icanquilt.com
I am sure that you will enjoy making this candle mat as much as I did!

WINTERBERRY LANE

I know...we are all sick of winter and want it to go away!!! So, I hesitate to mention that WINTERBERRY LANE by Whimsicals has just arrived at the shop!! I was getting ready to close the shop for the day and in comes UPS with the complete collection. Shelly and I ripped open the boxes in excitement and started drooling over the fabric. This collection is a winner!!! The main panel has adorable snowmen, presents stacked high and a sleigh full of poinsettia's. The co-ordinating fabrics are in warm dusty colors creating a stunning pallette. This will be a quick yet wonderful quilt to make for anyone on your holiday list! Shop early for best selection.

"Little Hearts" for February!!

This year is flying by and I cant believe its already February. So that means we need a project with Hearts to celebrate the month. I couldn't find a simple pattern that would not take a lot of time...so why not design something myself. Using Jo Mortons Annandale collection (pinks and browns) I put together a small wallhanging with(5) little heart blocks and (4) 4 patch blocks and embellished with some buttons. The finished quilt is about 20" square and perfect for a small table of wallhanging. The other little heart quilt could also be a small wallhanging, candle mat or trivet for your dish of chocolates!!! I will have the pattern directions and kits ready soon.

Jo Morton's Leftovers

I recently noticed this sweet little quilt in Jo Morton's book " Coming Home" and knew that I had to make it! So I gathered up my "leftover" fabrics from my Jo Morton collections and here it is. The sample is on display at the shop along with the book and lots of Jo Morton fabrics in case you dont have them already. Mia (Little Sis) always gives her approval by rolling on every project...it took several tries to get this picture without her in the middle of the quilt....she kind of matches the color of the quilt so I guess she figured she belonged on it! I have to laugh, her eyes look like she has eyeliner or mascara on and she looks so big..but she is actually a very small kitty and quite photogenic don't you think!

Happy Quilting,
Peg
